This vase is handthrown in the potter’s wheel and then rapidly heated in a Raku kiln. At 1650 degrees Fahrenheit it is removed and dipped into a fermented yeast bath that etches the pattern into the red hot clay. It is then quickly plunged into cold water to seal the effects.
